Apple boss Steve Jobs announced that they are offering free cases for iPhone 4 users, during a press conference on the iPhone 4′s antenna problem.
Jobs said, “We are not perfect” in behalf of the entire company. That is why they provide the users with this case.
The case will answer to the signal problem on the iPhone 4. They said that if the iPhone were held in a certain way, signal problems would occur.
Owners must apply in the Apple website to avail of the free case starting July 22. The company may not be able to provide for all the owners but they will be supplying a various range of cases, according to Mr. Jobs.
Supplying one case to all the three million iPhone 4 users may cost Apple around $180, based on the price of their casing. They will be offering this free case only until September 30.
Mr. Jobs also offered a full refund to all the iPhone 4 users in 30 days if they are not contended with the performance of the iPhone.
Brian Marshall, managing director of Gleacher & Company, shared his views saying, these controversies could affect Apple, but it is a good thing that the company made an action to answer the problem
“This has been blown out of proportion and is a media firestorm,” According to Mr. Marshall.
The signal problem of the iPhone is caused by the steel case, which is where most of the antennas are. Antennas gap when it is held on the lower left bridge that creates the signal malfunction. Putting bumpers around the phone may also solve this problem.
Mr. Jobs said in the conference that signal problems are not unusual even in other phones. He said, “This has been blown so out of proportion, it’s incredible.”
The Company has been trying to solve this issue since it first started just three weeks ago, according to Mr. Jobs.
Mr. Jobs aired the similar signal problem with smartphones, such as the Blackberry Bold 9700. This is just to compare iPhone4’s glitches to other phones.
He said, this is not a problem only Apple has to face, but this is an issue the whole smartphone industry should try to solve.
I think it is just sad that it is so complicated to get the free iphone 4 case. With this antenna problems there should be free cases avaiable at every store that sells iphones.
