Kasai River 300x161 Congo Boat Accident Possibly Claimed 140 LivesData released by the Democratic Republic of Congo reveal that up to 140 people are believed to be dead after a boat turned over on the Kasai River, tributary of the Congo River in Bandudu province last Wednesday.

The said boat carrying passengers and goods was allegedly overloaded; 80 persons are confirmed dead by Information Minister Lambert Mende. He further remarked through BBC that the level of the river during the traversing was low and that the accident was brought about by the collision with a mud bank.

Another similar incident happened last November when 73 people passed away after the boat they rode in sank at Lake Mai-Ndombe in Bandudu.
