Apple Inc. is planning to take the iPhone and iPod users head-on, who are using the jailbroken applications. The company has applied for patenting the technology of remotely blocking those iPhones and iPods which are loaded with pirated applications, software and games popularly known as jailbreaking apps.
This technology is one more measure taken by Apple Inc. to protecting its devices from unauthorized activities of users. Company has categorized the applications as unauthorized jailbreaking ones which are not approved by Apple Inc.
Using its new technology Apple can trace the cracked iPhones and can block them remotely. Smart phones will send the information about counterfeit programs and piracy to the company. This technology of remote monitoring has been described in its application under review with the US Patent and Trademark Office.
Apple has published the concept of new security standard for smart phones according to which the cracked iPhone automatically takes the snap of unauthorized user, copies the data and erases it from the memory of device.
So far as legislation is concerned, Jailbreaking of iPhone is quite lawful in US, so many analysts doubt if Apple will be practically able to apply new algorithm for the protection of devices.
Many analysts are of the view that the customers need not fear about their phones being disconnected unexpectedly, this is not going to happen. If the company wished to use this remote monitoring, it could have already done this during mass pilferage of phones. Therefore anything of such sort is unlikely to occur. Most of the mobile majors like Nokia Symbian, Blackberry, Google Android, and other Operating systems already have this technology.
this patent is mainly directed against those jialbroken iphone users. You know, it has deeply affected Apple’s profit that so many people chose to jialbreak, but I think even invented the patent, the smart Dev-team or another dark horse can continue to come up with countermeasures, but on the other hand, many people will choose to another brand. for me , i am using a jailbroken iphone 4, combining my Aneesoft iphone 4 video converter , i feel nice now , but if the apple release the patent one day , i think i will chose Adroid phone.
