Since the idea has started a few months back, Mesothelioma vaccine is already making the lives of several individuals suffering from the fatal disease more promising.
This, as Dutch scientists have reported that the new vaccine employing the use of immunotherapy could be used for further trials. Based on the study, the major breakthrough incorporates itself in the body’s immune system paving the production of anti-mesothelioma antigens by the dendritic T-cells. At present, the use of chemotherapy and radiation as modalities for treatment takes the backseat.
Mesothelioma is one of the most fatal kinds of cancer that has recorded several fatalities in the past. The former NFL legend Merlin Olsen is among the victims, who, as a characteristic of the disease, discovered the illness only in the latter stage. The detection in the late stages makes the recuperation more impossible.
Asbestos has been the known culprit for the disease. It can be remembered that the late Olsen filed a lawsuit against big companies like NBC Studios, NBC Universal, 20th Century Fox Film Corporation and Lennox Industries blaming them for his exposure to the asbestos.
For now, the medical communities as well as those afflicted with the disease are closely eyeing the promises of the new vaccine.
