whooping US $13, 800 was reached from the lock of hair of Napoleon Bonaparte’s, the former French Emperor who made waves across the world.
An unnamed London collector bought the hair. The hair was cut from the legend’s head after his death when he was in exile in 1821 on the Atlantic Island of St Helena.
CNN further disclosed that there were forty Napoleon items belonging to descendants of a British Officer Denzil Jbbetson in St Helena which almost sold at $ 100, 000. Jbbetson worked in the detention facility from 1815 to 1821. His son brought his collection to New Zealand and remained in a suitcase when it was finally sold.
Jbbetson’s diary talked about the exchanges of ideas he made with Bonaparte. It even relayed how Bonaparte verbalized British invasion inspite of his famous Battle of Waterloo (1815) failure. The diarty was bought for $6,600.
In addition, a lithograph and an image of Napoleon on his deathbed using watercolor made by Jbbetson was bought for $14,600. This was the highest price accorded for a single article. “It was a unique and important collection. Denzil Ibbetson was an acute recorder of life on the island and was in a unique position to access Napoleon in his final years”, Harnish Coney of the Art+Object auction house was quoted.
He also commented on the importance of Napoleon’s role in history and how people will gain a new perspective with this activity.
