A latest study conducted on military recruits in Britain reports that strengthening and Stretching routines before grueling exercise may greatly reduce the risk of developing Runner’s Knee.

Anterior Knee Pain, or more commonly known as Runner’s Knee, is characterized by pain in the front portion of the knee which is aggravated when one runs or climbs stairs.

Most British recruits who drop out attribute their decision to the condition. Reports also indicate that about 25 percent of active individuals suffer from the condition.

The study published in the American Journal of Sports Medicine followed 1,500 recruits at the Defense Medical Rehabilitation Center in Surrey, in the UK and found that those who were made to do Stretching and strengthening exercises before standard military exercise routines were much less likely to report Knee Pain.

The study reports that five percent of the recruits who followed a standard military routine of warm-up and cool-down reported Knee Pain.

On the other hand, only more than one percent of those who were told to do eight different sets of Stretching exercises before and after exercise reported Knee Pain.
